Musings on corporate finance, fund raising, capital markets and other matters

Q&A with Associate Partner, Martin Nowicki

Can you share the most valuable advice you've ever received?

"Call first, e-mail later." While it may sound obvious, I think we (myself included) sometimes rely a little too much on indirect communication as a habit. Its worth keeping in mind that not everything reads as well as it sounds.

What do you focus on at Altimapa?

I'm responsible for assisting our financial institutions & sponsor clients with our debt advisory services. These include specialised lenders or finance companies, private equity or investment companies. Being part of a small and agile team, I also have the privilege of lending my colleagues a hand wherever else necessary.

Is there a specific achievement or moment in your time at Altimapa that stands out to you?

For me, it's the moments we help our stakeholders - clients, investors, collaborative partners - achieve their objectives as a result of our efforts.

What inspired you to pursue a career in Capital Markets?

I have always enjoyed taking on challenges and solving problems. Generally, I perform at my best in a dynamic environment, together with brilliant and motivated individuals. It so happened that capital markets in particular ticked all these boxes.

What was your professional background before joining Altimapa?

Before joining Altimapa, I spent most of my career at NatWest Markets (née RBS), assisting large corporates and institutions in issuing bonds internationally and hedging their long-term interest rate- and currency risks. I also had a sojourn in our family business, which was a formative experience and great complement to my time in the financial markets.

What's your favourite part of your role at Altimapa?

That no day is really like the other, that what you sow is what you reap and that you can enjoy the successes (and tackle the challenges) that come from it all with brilliant colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.
