Altimapa Capital, the London based private debt specialist, has launched a dedicated insurance-linked securities (ILS) unit to take advantage of the growing interest in this area from institutional investors.

José Pedro Jácome is joining Altimapa to lead the new unit, bringing with him over a decade of experience in ILS at both GAM Investments and Ledger Capital Markets.

According to Pedro Tavares, Founder and CEO of Altimapa, "ILS has become a theme in conversations with investors and the firm plans to address this demand by acting as an advisor on specific deals with clients and is also looking to set up a suite of funds to provide exposure to different lines of insurance".

Tosin Adesiyan, Partner, added "the appetite for non-correlated financial assets is increasing the attractiveness of both cat and non-cat ILS investments. Altimapa Capital, with its well-established structured capital investor base, is poised to service this growing asset class".

Pedro Jácome said: “I am very excited to join a firm with the expertise in bespoke investment solutions of Altimapa, which is perfectly positioned to help institutional capital become an increasingly important source of capital for the insurance industry.”

Altimapa's strategic initiative compounds the trend in innovative solutions that increase capacity in the insurance and MGA market in an increasingly open and transparent manner.
